Banyana prepared for Botswana

Banyana Banyana head coach Vera Pauw says preparations for the friendly international match against Botswana on Saturday are in full steam, but is saddened by Comoros’ withdrawal.

The clash will take place at the Vaal University of Technology Stadium, with kick-off at 15h00, and Pauw has credited SAFA and Sasol for their swift reaction in setting up a match.

Banyana were originally scheduled to play Comoros in the second leg of the 2014 African Women’s Championship qualifiers, but after losing 13-0 to South Africa they withdrew.

“It is unfortunate that Comoros withdrew from the second leg, but I am grateful that everyone at SAFA and Sasol reacted quickly and worked hard for us to get a match against Botswana,” said Pauw.

“We have more friendly matches lined up against stronger opponents to ensure that we get the team ready for the African Women’s Championship.”

Strikers Kgadi Mokoma and Chantelle Esau are new comers from the Sasol League triple national champions Palace Super Falcons, while Mpumi Nyandeni from Russia is also part of the team.

“We have had a look at a lot of players and with 144 teams participating in the Sasol League, the reality is that we cannot invite everyone. The group we have now is the core of the team and we believe that they are capable of doing a great job, starting with the match against Botswana on Saturday,” added Pauw.
