‘Padkos’ will never be the same

Road trips are one of things you either love or hate. The deciding factor can, of course, rely heavily on those with whom you're travelling.

Packing your own food is important when planning a trip. It helps you control your food intake and avoid the unhealthy temptations that abound in garage shops. It also allows you to cut costs, letting you save money for your actual holiday.

We share a few do’s and dont’s:

  • Do pack a bag for rubbish.
  • Don’t pack soft-skinned fruit – these will get mushy quickly and will drip juice everywhere. Rather pack apples or naartjies.
  • Do pack plenty of water; fizzy drinks will only increase your sugar intake unnecessarily.
  • Don’t pack too many sweets; you’ll only be tempted to eat them all.
  • Do pack a variety of foods, just because it’s “padkos” doesn’t mean it has to be boring.
  • Do pack wet-wipes; these are invaluable for cleaning hands and kids’ faces after eating.
