Behind the walls of the Witbank Hospital

My day started as any other day. I was going to take my youngest daughter to school.

We were running late as my husband has post traumatic stress disorder due to an electric shock at a mine that refuses to accept responsibility, so that battle continues. In any case on our way to school we were running late and I slipped on a cement tile.

I had extreme pain in my left leg and thought “Oh no, I can’t get up” so I asked my daughter to call my husband. My husband called the ambulance that arrived very quickly and they were very kind (Thank you).

Dr Glamini said that I had a broken hip so I was admitted to the Witbank Hospital. Dr Athos Pappadopolas walked me through the hip replacement surgery.

He is an outstanding surgeon as well as Dr Steenkamp, Dr Glamini, and Dr Metaba. As I laid there I noticed how tired and busy the staff was, but they did not complain. I got three meals a day, proper pain medication and I honestly don’t think you can complain as the doctors are friendly and really listen.

I want to thank the doctors and team who did the operation for what they have done for me. I am a witness to the dedication of the sisters and to the ladies that clean up. Thank you to my anaesthetist although I don’t know your name. Thank you Dr Pappadopolas you changed my life and my outlook, and all of the dedicated people, thank you.

You can help them by donating stockings that prevent blood clots, or blankets and curtains. Any help is appreciated.
