What the end of the year means to me

So it is finally December and we can officially start talking about Christmas and the end of the year. I think calling it the end of the year might not be appropriate even now because there is still so much happening.

Imagine a little ‘to do list’ that South Africa and specifically eMalahleni needs to complete before the year can end.
*Number 1: All of the politicians including Ju Ju and Zuma should behave themselves long enough to not be accused of corruption, or get kicked out of parliament just until the New Year.
*Number 2: Eskom should get their power stations repaired and fully functional, with all the buildings and equipment maintained.
*Number 3: The South African people should use electricity more sparingly, not make illegal connections, or steal copper just until the end of the year.
*Number 4: The unions should stop being political anarchists by putting the entire system in gridlock every two months with national strikes, protests and hate speech and ‘racist colonial business owners’. That line was from an actual press release on the National Union of Mine Workers of South Africa’s website a few months ago.
*Number 5: eMalahleni councillors should start taking their job seriously and find out what Ward they are actually the councillor of and let there community know what is happening.
*Number 6: The people of eMalahleni need to get more involved, in their community policing forums, or community development projects, or even volunteer and a children’s home for a day, because complaining to the municipality, or opening a case at the police, or liking the cause on Facebook will never be enough.

So there you go. It looks like we will be stuck in December 2014 forever. Brian is a bit pessimistic this close to a holiday. I keep thinking how many of these things can we hope to see happen in our life times. When the New Year does roll around maybe Brian will see the silver lining, but that is a rant for another day.
