Three suspects stick to their ‘gun’ in Lekazi

Three suspects bit the bullet when they were arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition by Witbank Police during proactive routine patrols.

Witbank Police stopped three suspects in their business robbery tracks earlier this month by arresting them for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The trio’s arrest took place last week (March 3) at approximately 14:00 when members of Witbank Police were engaged in proactive routine patrols in Lekazi, eMalahleni.

Police members spotted a white Toyota Avanza with no number plates and decided to do a routine check on the occupants and the vehicle.

When the suspects saw the police members approaching them, they immediately got out of the vehicle and tried to run away.

Fortunately, the police stopped them in their tracks and managed to arrest all three suspects.

Upon searching the suspects, the police found one firearm with ammunition in the suspect’s possession.

According to the police, the preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects planned to commit a business robbery in eMalahleni on the day.

The three suspects, aged 21, 27 and 33 years appeared before Witbank Magistrate’s Court on March 7, on charges of the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The investigation is continuing, and more arrests are expected.
