EYASA ‘laces’ up for school shoe and mentoring projects in eMalahleni and Phola

The eMalahleni Youth Against Substance Abuse (EYASA) donated school shoes to Zacheus Malaza Secondary School as part of its ‘Back to School Drive’, and mentored the boys of Mabande Secondary School in Phola in becoming men.

eMalahleni Youth Against Substance Abuse (EYASA) proudly distributed its first batch of school shoes as part of its ‘Back to School Drive’, and mentored with its ‘Boys to Men’ workshop this month.

As the community knows, EYASA is a non-profit organisation in eMalahleni that addresses several serious topics among the youth in our city, including substance abuse (dangers of experimenting with drugs and alcohol), teenage pregnancy, making education fashionable with its school shoes project, self-love and depression, every child matters, and life after matric.

Crosswell Libazi (Chairperson and founder of eMalahleni Youth Against Substance Abuse), King Ndundza Sogutjhe from Phola and Jabulile Kubheka on February 10 at Mabande Comprehensive School.

Earlier this month, the organisation called upon shoppers at Saveway Superspar to purchase and donate school shoes available in-store as part of its ‘Back to School Drive’ from January to February.

EYASA proudly donated its first batch of school shoes to Zacheus Malaza Secondary School on February 14.

“Your contribution, support, and participation in this program will ensure we keep a boy and girl child in class during 2023 and beyond. God bless,” Mr Crosswell Libazi, chairperson and founder of EYASA said.

Earlier in the month, the organisation visited Mabande Secondary School in Phola for its ‘Boys to Men’ project on February 10.

The project is a workshop aimed at empowering a boy child to stay in school and stay far away from drugs and alcohol.

Khaya Moendame, Bonginkosi Maredi, Samkele Magagula, Precious Massema, Hermione Khoza, Ms Mapule Mokoena (Glencore), Confidence Magagula, Thokozani Mokwena and Ms Bongiwe Sigudla (Principal of Zacheus Malaza Secondary).

“The purpose is to make sure we nurture boys that will be responsible men tomorrow,” Crosswell said.

He explained that many times women create platforms like ‘stokvels’ where they gather in different gatherings and shape each other through a real talk on business, social life, travel and leisure while empowering each other on how to run a home, that God is a foundation in building and growing any health family and family tree.

“On the other hand, we as men are flocking to social clubs, and drinking alcohol. Or drinking by the car wash like there is no tomorrow. It is high time we as men gather with boys, mentor them and relay responsibility of what it means to be a man through providing, protecting and loving ourselves and our families. We are highly against the abuse of substances, both alcohol and drugs, which mainly contribute to Gender-Based Violence (GBV). Drugs and alcohol are key drivers to abuse and GBV,” Crosswell said.

He further said EYASA will host different events like ‘Daddy Day Care’ on Sundays, where they go to church with their kids and babysit them on a quest to mentor them, starting February 24 and 25 at Zeerust Park, Zone 14 Eznumbeni.

EYASA is clearly ‘laced up’ for all its exciting projects, and the community is welcome to contribute to the noble causes.
