Rapes are on the rise in eMalahleni

Rape is a growing concern in eMalahleni after two alleged incidents of rape.

A woman was allegedly raped in broad daylight near a local shopping centre.

The incident occurred on Monday, January 16, when the complainant was looking for work in Extension 16.

According to reports, the complainant finds herself in a gambling zone, where she is approached by an unknown man.

The suspect is suspected of listening in on the complainant’s conversation while approaching her and asking about the type of work she was looking for.

He then offered to assist her, telling her that his boss was looking for someone and that he could accompany her to the boss.

When they arrived, there was no one at home, so he suggested they go to a shopping centre together to check on his boss.

It is believed that the suspect took advantage of the complainant on their way to the centre because the suspect said he was tired and wanted to smoke and then sat down.

When the complainant asked to be excused, the suspect allegedly grabbed her from behind and strangled her, telling her to undress and raping her before fleeing with the complainant’s phone.

The other incident occurred on Saturday, February 4 at Hlalanikahle Extension 2.

According to reports, the complainant came to visit her boyfriend when his sister chased them out, and they decided to sleep at the boyfriend’s friend’s house, but on the way, they came across two unknown men, one of whom had a firearm.

They allegedly forced the complainant’s boyfriend to have intimate relations with her, and one of the suspects raped her; they all took turns raping her and then forced her to wash her private parts in beer.

Vosman Police Captain Vusi Mnisi said people must avoid walking during the night and in the early hours of the morning because it is a platform used by armed criminals to target their victims, especially those who come to taverns.
