Long grass is causing frustration in Reyno Ridge

The safety of the children walking to the high school situated in this street has become a great concern.

Long grass and unkept municipal sidewalks and fields seem to have become the norm in eMalahleni.

In Reyno Ridge the ward councillor has become frustrated about a specific area that requires attention.

Cables that feed the immediate area have been stolen numerous times in the area of Dixon Road in Reyno Ridge.

Dixon Road in Reyno Ridge has become so overgrown that the length of the grass is longer than the average teenager.

This is the main concern of Clr Salomi Kriel of Ward 18.

“The safety of the children walking to the high school situated in this street has become a great concern to me,” said Kriel.

Not only is this a safety concern for scholars, but an overall concern for safety for the area as well as cable theft.

Cables that feed the immediate area have been stolen in this same area numerous times before. This area needs to be maintained for overall crime prevention for the community as well as municipal infrastructure,” explained Kriel.

According to Kriel, this area is reported regularly but has not been attended to for a long duration of time.

“I follow up on this specific complaint regularly with the relevant department, but no services have been received; the field and sidewalks need urgent attention,” said Kriel.

Another issue that the long grass has contributed to is of course illegal dumping.

“People use the cover of the grass to dump illegally and this creates a whole other environmental issue next to a school.”

Any other problematic areas that require grass cutting in Ward 18 can be reported to Clr Salomi Kriel at 076 226 2083.
