Multiple trucks on the N4 set alight amid Vosman protest

Vosman police say there are no arrests made as yet and there are no fatalities that had been reported so far.

Angry residents blocked traffic near KG Mall with stones and burning tyres after they were allegedly left without electricity for almost a week.

Protestors later shut down the N4 freeway, and several trucks were torched.

Ward 8 councillor Xolani Nkosi says the residents failed to be patient while the municipal technical team was replacing a power cable that was stolen at Buffer Substation.

In a turn of events that took place on Wednesday night, January 11, trucks from the Kingdom of eSwatini (Swaziland), Mozambique, Hartbeespoort and an Eskom bakkie suffered the consequences of poor service delivery after it was set alight.

Emalahleni Local Municipality Spokesperson Lebo Mofokeng explained that the strike made it difficult for the technical team to complete the testing and switch on the electricity.

“The team will assess and commission when the roads are cleared and security is guaranteed for our employees. We appeal to the community to allow our employees to work on-site, so we can deliver services. Electricity will be switched on once our team can gain access,” he pleaded.
