Tennis coaching clinic a success

‘We want the schools to compete among themselves and aim for them to form clubs as well. The schools will be encouraged to play among themselves using some of the facilities in some of the schools,’ Solly Myakeni of eMalahleni Municipality Sport and Recreation said.

A tennis coaching clinic organised and facilitated by the local municipality proved to be successful for the invited schools that took part.

Solly Myakeni of eMalahleni Municipality Sport and Recreation said they had invited eight schools, but only six pitched up for the coaching clinic.

He said the aim was to introduce learners to different sporting codes like tennis and to promote mass participation.

“We are going to provide all the schools with new rackets and balls because we are in the process of establishing a league for the schools. We want the schools to compete among themselves and aim for them to form clubs as well. The schools will be encouraged to play among themselves using some of the facilities in some of the schools,” Solly said.

Teachers will also be trained in the process and the municipality is in the process to revamp the tennis-, basketball- and netball courts.
