eMalahleni attorney says he was not arrested
Rumours that local attorney, Johan Coetzee was arrested, are false.
A local attorney’s phone has not stopped ringing after rumours that he was arrested.
He said, “I was surprised to hear about my arrest”.
Johan Coetzee Incorporated issued a statement earlier denying the false reports of his arrest alongside Eskom’s former executive Matshela Koko and others.
This follows social media reports that he was arrested and appeared in the Middelburg Court on October 27.
The allegations include fraud and money laundering relating to the construction of Eskom’s Kusile Power Station.
The attorney that was arrested and appeared in court happens to have the same surname.
Coetzee’s legal firm said that there is no relation between Coetzee and the attorney that was arrested.
“Likewise, neither attorney Johan Coetzee of eMalahleni nor the firm Johan Coetzee Incorporated have at any stage acted on behalf of the erstwhile Eskom executives, their family members (and their juristic entities) or the contractors who now face criminal charges,” concluded the statement.
