Security guard fatally shot on his way to work in eMalahleni

Police are on the lookout for three suspects who reportedly shot and stabbed the security guard.

A security guard was murdered while on his way to work.

Police are on the lookout for three suspects who reportedly shot and stabbed the security guard on August 20 at Old Coronation informal settlement.

According to information, the 57-year-old man and his colleague were on their way to work when they were attacked by three armed suspects at about 05:30.

It is alleged that one suspect was carrying a firearm and the second one was carrying a knife whilst the third suspect started searching the victims and took their cell phones as well as cash of R500.

One of the guards tried to fight back but was unfortunately shot and stabbed multiple times.

Emergency services were summoned to the scene, however, the victim was certified dead by the paramedics on arrival. A case of robbery with an additional charge of murder was opened by the police.

The plea is made to anyone who might assist police to apprehend the suspects to contact Detective Lieutenant Colonel Chris Ngwenya of Witbank SAPS at 071 352 7585 or call the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111.

All received information will be treated as confidential, and callers may opt to remain anonymous.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, has strongly condemned the senseless killing of the security guard and ordered the swift arrest of the suspects.
