The event took place at TUT eMalahleni Campus.
On the day of the event the acting campus rector, Dr Aloys Akumu welcomed the audience and especially the first-year students.
He further said that sports participation is very important to the students’ lives as it benefits them with a healthy brain and body for studying and it keeps them away from doing wrong things like drugs, being involved in crime, or fights with other students.
TUT eMalahleni Sport and Recreation Section Head Mr Enock Mudau said the purpose of the event was to introduce their campus sports team to their new campus first-year students and for recruitment purposes.
Mudau further said he thank the parents of the students for trusting their institution for enhancing in providing a better future for their children.
“Students need to engage or participate in extracurricular activities such as sports, drama and so forth because that’s where they get some time to relax and opportunities to meet new people, create new friends, and also provide them an opportunity of being recruited by professional teams. “Without any doubt I can say these extracurricular activities play a vital role in students’ lives,” said Mudau.
The event was successful and Covid-19 regulations were followed, people were wearing their face masks and they kept social distancing.
