Sunrise FC Masters stun Coal City with thrilling comeback

Coal City took the lead before half-time in a nail-biting clash with Sunrise FC Masters last Sunday.

In a nail-biting Emalahleni Masters Football League (EMFL) clash, in just one of the six matches played, Sunrise FC Masters faced off against Coal City Masters, and the drama unfolded like a champions league final.

On Sunday, October 13, at the Pumas Stadium, Coal City took the lead before half-time, courtesy of an unfortunate own goal from a Sunrise player, but coach Maluta Colbert Mudau’s half-time pep talk ignited a fire within his squad.

Mudau’s tactical master-stroke introduced fresh legs, and Sunrise FC stormed back onto the pitch.

However, Coal City struck again, doubling their advantage seconds into the second half.

Refusing to surrender, Sunrise FC dominated possession, dictating the tempo with their trademark slick passing and relentless pressure.

The crowd erupted as they equalized with two clinical strikes, leveling the score.

The momentum swung decisively in Sunrise’s favor, with Coal City clinging to a precious point.

Sunrise’s lightning-fast counterattacks left Coal City’s defense reeling, but agonizingly, two goals were denied by the woodwork.

Sunrise’s impressive fitness and scintillating football have opponents quaking in their boots.

With just three games left, the EMFL league title remains tantalizingly within reach.

“Most of the teams are afraid of Sunrise, as the players are very fit and play good football. The EMFL league is very competitive, and with only three games remaining to close the season, we are pushing for the top spot,” said coach Mudau.

The league standings are as follows: Maveli FC with 47 points, Vosman Legends with 38 points, Liverpool Masters with 37 points, Coal City with 32 points, WVK Masters with 31 points, Sunrise Masters with 27 points, Kingborn Masters with 27 points, Eskom Park FC with 20 points, Real Kasi Masters with 16 points, Khelina Masters with 16 points, AECI FC with 14 points and Umlilo with 12 points.

Will Maveli FC maintain their momentum and clinch the top spot in the final, or will the next three games allow a dark horse to emerge?
