A local driver’s routine journey turned into a nightmare when he was allegedly hijacked at gunpoint by two ruthless suspects.
According to the police reports, the complainant alleged that on Tuesday, October 1, at approximately 20:30, he was driving a white Sesfikile Toyota Quantum with registration number KXS985MP, from Tasbet Park when two individuals asked for a ride to the township.
They claimed to be coming from work to gain the driver’s trust.
However, the complainant alleged that a few moments later, close to the N12 off-ramp, the suspect’s genuine intentions became alarmingly evident when they pulled out a gun, “They pointed the gun at me and demanded I stop the vehicle and move to the back seat; I thought my life was in danger,” said the complainant.
The driver’s cellphone and cash were allegedly taken by the suspects, who then drove to an unknown spot in Delmas, left him there, and fled the scene.
“My heart hurts and is broken since I had to work hard to get the vehicle,” said the complainant.
Captain Eddie Hall, spokesperson from the Witbank Police, gives tips: “Avoid offering rides to strangers, especially those claiming to be workers, verify passenger’s identities before offering rides, keep vehicle doors locked and windows closed, be vigilant, especially at night.”
This is still an ongoing case, and police are investigating.
