Two cases of carjacking reported in eMalahleni

A man was allegedly assaulted and carjacked by hitchhikers wearing the same uniform as his.

Witbank Police Station is investigating a string of carjackings.

This comes after two cases of carjackings were reported in eMalahleni.

According to the report, a man was driving a Volkswagen Polo TSI on Watermeyer Street in Tasbet Park on Friday, September 27.

At around 20:45, it is alleged that as the man was driving into a fast food franchise in the area, a silver Toyota Avanza with three unknown suspects blocked his car.

The suspects allegedly threatened the man with a firearm before they forcefully threw him in the back seat of his car, and tied his hands with a cable tie.

According to the report, he was taken to an unknown location where he was physically assaulted and forced to make transactions from his mobile banking app.

It is alleged that once the suspects reached the withdrawal limit, they waited until midnight to continue with the withdrawals.

At around 01:30 on Saturday, September 28, it is said that the suspects robbed the man of his sneakers and cellphone, and dumped him in a bush before they fled with his car.

The N4 is no stranger to the notorious hijackings that continue to target motorists.

There have been numerous reports of suspects posing as police and traffic officials who rob, assault, and steal vehicles.

A new trend has seemingly been introduced as of recent where these ruthless criminals pose as workers dressed in full work uniforms from various mining and power stations in eMalahleni.

According to the report in August, a man was driving an Audi, headed to work on the N4 towards Ogies when he noticed an unknown man wearing a uniform similar to his, hiking.

It is alleged that when the man stopped to give the hitch-hiking colleague a lift, he was joined by three more unknown men also wearing the same uniform who needed a lift to work.

It is said that as the man was driving with his estranged colleagues, he was asked to stop at the N4 and N12 split when he was allegedly suddenly strangled with a rope with his hands tied and forced to face down.

The suspects allegedly began assaulting the man, demanding the pins to his bank cards.

The man was supposedly robbed of his wedding ring and dropped off at an unknown location before the suspects drove off with his car.
