Birds brave strong winds home

The final club results will be published next week.

The management committee of the Middelveld Posduif Unie, in their infinite wisdom, decided to postpone the races scheduled for the past two weekends.
The races on September 21 to September 28 were postponed due to expected adverse weather conditions.
This was a good decision as conditions were not conducive to pigeon racing.

However, the idea to host four races on the same day, may not have been the best alternative, as several fanciers had lost a lot of pigeons and could therefore not basket according to the prescribed limitations.
In addition, typical August conditions, strong winds, hot weather, and rain prevailed.

It was then decided to bring the pigeons ‘back’ to Kimberley (550km) instead of Griekwastad (680km) and Hopetown (660km) and to liberate the first two races at 06:45 followed 15 minutes later by the last two races.

After a gruelling nine and a half hours on the wing, Hansie van der Merwe clocked the first Kimberley I entrant at 16:15.

Winning velocity was 58km/h.

Hansie also clocked second place, followed by a half-sister of the winning bird, which belongs to Jabula Loft in third place.

The fourth and fifth birds belong to Hansie.

In the Kimberley II race, only five birds, all Hansie’s birds, reached their destination in race time.

It was the winning bird’s second win for the season.

The second-place bird is the sire of the first and third-place winners of the Kimberley I race.
The winning velocity was 55km/h.

The Kimberley III race was won by yet another Tom Lock from the lofts of Hansie.
He clocked the next three places before Jabula Loft clocked the fifth pigeon 40 minutes later.
For some inexplicable reason, the third and fourth races were quite a bit faster than the first and second races.

The winning velocity was 61km/h.
There is a saying: ‘Cometh the man cometh the hour’ and that is just what Jabula Loft did in the last race for the season, Kimberley IV.

He clocked the winning bird at 15:54 with a 25 minute winning margin velocity of 62km/h! The second bird, a half-sister to the winner, took second place and belongs to Hansie.

Third and fourth places went to Jabulane with Hansie taking fifth place.
