An anti-drug awareness campaign in Ackerville is on a mission to end drug use in townships

The God is Alive Foundation was founded in 2021 by Given Phala after he saw the surge of drug abuse in his community.

“Your life is too precious, choose a healthy and bright future, say no to drugs,” read the slogan for the anti-drug awareness campaign hosted at a community-based centre in Ackerville.

Members of the organisation recently dedicated themselves to ending substance abuse and addiction.

Speaking to WITBANK NEWS on Thursday, September 12, the members shared that their sole purpose for the awareness walk was to show love and support to their brothers and sisters, “there’s still a chance to come out of drugs. It’s not over until God says so. We are also urging family and community members to accept them and give them a chance after they have been rehabilitated.”

Given Phala mentioned that he founded the organisation in 2021 after he realised that the drug rate in his community was on the rise.

“Our vision is to help our brothers and sisters stay resuscitated after rehabilitating. We are on a mission to develop holistic inclusive partnerships with various stakeholders to improve awareness through engagements and help them to believe in themselves again,” Given stated.

The awareness campaign was attended by local police, fellow organisations, and the secretary of the Emalahleni Local Drug Action committee, Jabulile Kubheka.

Members of the police encouraged community members to work with the police and to report drug operations in their communities.
