String of robberies hits the eMalahleni community

“The fact that someone I considered a friend could do this to me, is heartbreaking. I trusted him, and he betrayed that trust in the worst possible way,” said the complainant.

In a shocking turn of events, a resident fell victim to a brutal robbery at the hands of someone he trusted.

The devastating incident has left the complainant reeling and highlights the harsh reality that even the deepest, closest to us can sometimes inflict the deepest wounds.

According to the police reports, on Monday, September 9, the complainant went to sleep around 00:30, when about 01:30, he was allegedly woken up by one of the two suspects who was threatening him with a knife.

The suspects allegedly took his cellphone, which was on top of the bed. The complainant then ran, trying to protect himself from being hurt.

The suspects allegedly fled the scene with the complainant’s phone.

“The fact that someone I considered a friend could do this to me, is heartbreaking. I trusted him, and he betrayed that trust in the worst possible way,” said the complainant.

One suspect has been arrested and according to the complainant he wishes that they could find the other suspect, hence if he is still out there, he is a threat to him.

In another incident, a terrifying ordeal unfolded on Wednesday, September 11, at approximately 21:00, when a residential robbery occurred in Old Coronation, leaving a family traumatised.

According to the police reports, the complainant and his wife were asleep when they were awoken by a loud kick on their door.

The door burst open, and according to the couple, two suspects, wearing balaclavas, allegedly stormed into the house. The suspects allegedly armed with a firearm, demanded to search the premises.

According to the complainant, the suspects allegedly took three cellphones, a gas bottle, a green jacket, and an undisclosed amount of cash.

It is also alleged that as the suspects fled, two shots were fired outside, further traumatising the family.

Captain Eddie Hall from Witbank Police gave these tips: “Always be on the lookout for suspicious persons and vehicles, enhance security through fitting access doors with security gates and install burglar bars on the windows, request neighbours to keep an eye when you go away for an extended period, do not open gates and doors for strangers, verify the details of anyone before you employ them and check the authenticity of a contractor before you allow access to the premises.”
