Empowering future leaders in STEM

STEM is unlocking a brighter future for young minds in eMalahleni.

A local mining smelting of chrome ore business and Young Creative Minds have joined forces to empower Grade 11 learners from four local schools, Elukhanyisweni Secondary School, Bonginsimbi Comprehensive School, Phillip Ndimande Secondary School, and Zacheus Malaza Secondary School, to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.

The career fair took place on Thursday, August 29, a groundbreaking initiative, aimed to address the critical need for STEM education in local communities.

Elukhanyisweni Secondary School, Bonginsimbi Comprehensive School, Phillip Ndimande Secondary School, and Zacheus Malaza Secondary School learners attended the career fair.

Through interactive sessions and hands-on activities, each school with 30 to 32 learners engaged with industry professionals, exploring various career paths in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Thato Jafter, the programme coordinator, praised the event, saying, “The career fair opened eyes to the endless possibilities in STEM, and more learners will be determined than ever to pursue a career in a different field”.

The collaboration between the mining smelting chrome ore businesses along with Young Creative Minds has made a significant impact on the futures of these young learners, equipping them with the knowledge and inspiration to succeed in STEM fields.
