A terrifying event of armed robbery and kidnapping has shaken the eMalahleni community, leaving a young couple traumatised and a victim with a gunshot wound.
According to police reports, the incident took place on Thursday, August 15, when a man and his girlfriend were attacked while sitting in his car.
After seizing the victim and his girlfriend, the suspects allegedly drove the victim’s car to an unknown area in Kromdraai and confined them inside a shack.
It is alleged that the suspects then took the victim’s bank card and password and used it to withdraw an unknown amount of cash.
Captain Eddie Hall from Witbank Police gave these tips: “Avoid being alone in a vehicle when traveling at night. Do not stop around hijacking spots or in any secluded area. Always be alert when driving. If you suspect you are being followed by a suspicious vehicle, drive to the nearest police station or call the SAPS Emergency Number 10111. Avoid distractions such as being on your phone, drinking, and driving. Increase caution at intersections; always keep a look-out for people loitering around your car or for any sudden activity around your car.”
The community is urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to the police.
This is still an ongoing case, and the police are investigating.
