Brave police officers foil hijacking and robbery, save victim’s life

A dramatic incident in Vosman showcased SAPS members' bravery and quick thinking.

In a daring incident in Vosman, SAPS members showcased their astute instincts and bravery, rescuing a victim of an alleged hijacking and robbery.

The incident occurred on Thursday, August 29, at approximately 00:15, when officers on patrol spotted a suspicious grey VW Polo approaching an ATM at a local shopping mall.

As they followed the vehicle, the occupants allegedly opened fire at them.

These members were following information on a hijacked vehicle.

They then followed it.

However, the occupants started to fire shots at the members, and they were compelled to retaliate.

The suspects managed to flee the scene. Police then heard a noise of a person calling from the car’s boot, and introduced himself as the owner of the car.

The victim alleged he had been hijacked and was about to be robbed of his bank card and car.

Sergeants Letter Mampuru, John Matlala, and Constable Mamiki Motsiri responded quickly and saved the victim’s life.

The victim thanked the cops and station Commander Brigadier Lindani Ndlovu, who praised the team’s outstanding performance.

 

“Currently, no one has been arrested in this matter, and police are calling on the community to assist with relevant information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects,” said Captain Elizabeth Hlathi.

 

The police are now asking for the community’s assistance in finding the suspects.
