Change the way the story ends says Phola SAPS about GBV

The Phola SAPS has launched a new initiative aimed at providing comprehensive support to victims of GBV. The initiative, which was launched in honour of Women’s Month, seeks to address the growing concern about GBV in the community.

On Wednesday, August 28, as part of the initiative, the Phola SAPS established a dedicated GBV support unit, which took place at a local power station that provided victims with access to counselling, legal assistance, and medical support.

“The Phola SAPS is committed to ensuring that victims of GBV receive necessary support and resources to rebuild their lives,” said Captain Tumi Morajane, the Acting Station Commander of Phola SAPS.

The unit will be staffed by trained officers and social workers who will work closely with victims to ensure they receive the necessary support and resources.

“The GBV support unit will be a safe space for victims to share their experiences and receive the help they need,” said Sergeant Thabang Petros Ntuli, GBV coordinator at Phola SAPS.

The initiative also includes a community outreach programme, which will see officers and social workers visiting local communities to raise awareness about GBV and provide support to victims. The programme will also include educational workshops and training sessions for community members, and report cases of GBV.

“Community involvement is crucial in the fight against GBV. By working together, we can create a community that is supportive and protective of all its members,” said Sergeant Nonhlanhla Ntuli, Crime Information Management and Analysis Centre (CIMAC) official at Phola SAPS.

The Phola SAPS has also partnered with local organisations to provide additional support to victims, including shelter and economic empowerment programmes.

“We are proud to partner with the Phola SAPS in this initiative. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of victims of GBV,” concluded Themba Nkosi, director of the local NPO Women’s Right Advocacy Group.
