eMalahleni residents targeted in a string of robberies

Crime in eMalahleni is on the rise as several incidents have been reported in recent weeks resulting in significant financial strains and trauma to the victims.

A string of brazen robberies has rocked eMalahleni, leaving residents on high alert, with separate incidents reported in recent weeks as the crimes resulted in significant financial losses and emotional trauma for the victims.
According to the police reports, four suspects allegedly robbed a man outside his girlfriend’s home in Uthingo Park.

The victim’s bank card was also allegedly used to withdraw money from various locations.
The incident occurred on Thursday, August 22, and the suspects, one of whom was allegedly armed, grabbed the victim’s stuff, including a cellphone, money, and bank cards, before fleeing the scene.

This is an ongoing case, as in the second incident, the victim was allegedly robbed and abducted by three suspects in a white car.
The incident occurred on Saturday, August 24, while the man was hiking to collect his car from a local supermarket at Tasbet Park.
The suspects allegedly drove past his intended destination, took a turn toward a local mine, and allegedly robbed him of his cellphone, his firearm, and his bank card. They also allegedly transferred cash from his account before tying him up with cable ties and leaving him in the bushes.

The Witbank Police warn motorists to keep safe on the roads and take steps to avoid becoming victims of hijackings.

The following preventative measures can save your life and need to be implemented: Check the condition of your car, do not pick up strangers or hitchhikers, keep enough space between vehicles at traffic lights, don’t stop to refresh or relieve yourself, memorise your registration number, safeguard your vehicles’ registration papers, and be vigilant in your driveway outside your home when parking your vehicle or before exiting your car.
The eMalahleni community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police.
