Defeat fuels determination

eMalahleni's Ladies FC show flashes of brilliance, with clever interplay and tenacious defence.

It was a bitter-sweet event for the eMalahleni Ladies Football Club at the Oupa Mnisi Birthday Celebration Tournament after they suffered devastating losses in all their matches, but the experience they gained and the opportunities to play against well-established ladies soccer clubs have given them the knowledge they need to rise from the ashes in future.

The tournament, which took place at the Phathudi Sports Grounds on Sunday, August 18 was full of excitement for all the teams taking place. eMalahleni Ladies FC played their first game against Future Banyana, but sadly lost that match 7-0.

Coach Given Mpanyane Mathabela tried to bolster his team’s courage after their brutal loss, but sadly it appears as if their momentum had been broken. Their second game against Might Rangers ended up being a 2-0 loss as well.

“It was a very bad day and our results were not good. The girls were sad to let down their supporters, but I told them to never give up. In life, we sometimes face loss. We just have to learn from it. There are either wins or lessons. We will take what we have learned into our next match and be stronger for it. I would like to thank the organisers of the tournament, as well as all the supporters that came out for the matches,” commented Given.

The final will be played in Phola on Saturday, August 31, and will be between Sbobo Ladies FC and Future Banyana Ladies.

The girls from eMalahleni FC can hold their heads up high, knowing that in their previous match, they bested the team that is now in the finals.

The team’s resilience and determination were evident despite the score lines. They showed flashes of brilliance, with clever interplay and tenacious defending.

Though the results didn’t go their way, eMalahleni Ladies FC demonstrated a never-say-die attitude, a quality that will serve them well in future fixtures.

As they lick their wounds and recharge, the team knows that adversity can be a catalyst for success.

By analysing their mistakes, working on their weaknesses, and capitalizing on their strengths, eMalahleni Ladies FC can transform their losses into a launching pad for future victories.
