The world is Mia’s dance floor

Nervous dancers prepared costumes and make-up and set the stage ablaze with stunning moves during the Dance Face Challenge.

Mia Beyers left the audience in awe with her near-perfect Jazz solo and was crowned the overall winner in the Dance Face Challenge (DFC) Mpumalanga 2024 competition.

The competition took place on August 23 and 24 at WH de Klerk School.

Ilze-Mari Homan.

Mia impressed the judges with her versatility and technical skill. She scored 98% and got a diamond certificate.

Mia is from Reaché Dance Academy.

During the two days, the judge, Pinto Ferreira, had the difficult task of scoring the 150 items presented over the two days.

Pinto sees dance as a call of passion.

He lectures at the Tshwane University of Technology in the Dance Department and Musical Theatre Department.

The styles Pinto had to judge included acrobatics, contemporary, hip hop, jazz, modern, open, acro-character, disco, freestyle, duos, and groups.

“All of this could not have been possible without any of the studios that participated: BodyWorX Dance Studio from eMalahleni, Extreme Dance Studio from Middelburg, and Julie-Ann’s School of Dance in Secunda and Boksburg. Everything was a huge success, and all honor to our Heavenly Father. I would also like to thank all the DFC crew members for making this an unforgettable event: Pierre Pelser, Vanessa Pelser, Johan Broodryk, Juanita Jansen van Rensburg, JP Pelser, Chantel Bruce, Matthew Callado, Wildré Oosthuizen, and Henri Westermann,” said the owner and director of the competition, Werner Pelser.

Werner started DFC in 2014.

“It started as a virtual competition as it was Covid-19 to allow dancers to be themselves and compete again during those difficult times. We’ve grown since then and are currently hosting two competitions during the year, one in the Free State and one in Mpumalanga. Next year, we are aiming for Gauteng as well,” Werner said.

Mia Grobler.

DFC is not affiliated with any dance studio or organisation and is open to all dance styles.

The competition was fierce, pushing the dancers to their limits and each performance was unique, a testament to the talent and passion of the dancers who participated.
