Local car wash operations, allegedly without proper permits, raise questions

Unlawful car washes raised serious concerns about compliance with environmental regulations.

Residents have expressed concern over an alleged illegal car wash operation in Duvha Park, which is located on a busy route.

The residents said the car wash poses a safety risk and runs without paying business rates and taxes, resulting in charges of unfair advantage.

The community calls for municipal officials to act, citing by-laws prohibiting vehicle washing and servicing at public transport facilities.

The by-laws state that offenders can face fines of up to R5 000 or imprisonment for up to 12 months.

Despite these regulations, the alleged illegal car wash continues to operate, leaving residents frustrated and questioning the municipality’s inaction.

“Premises are not rezoned and therefore business rates and taxes and not paid,” said the concerned resident.

The local municipality has failed to respond to requests for comment, leaving the community wondering why the by-laws are not being enforced.
