André’s pigeons take the podium

According to the programme, this weekend’s races are from Belmont, approximately 580km.

The eighth sprint race from Potchefstroom turned out to be a fairly one-sided affair with André van Rensburg clocking the first four pigeons at approximately 10:20 within 16 seconds.

Maranda Lofts clocked the fifth bird 21 seconds after André’s fourth pigeon on August 2.
The winning velocity over the 233km was 76km/h.

The next morning the yearling championship was the first of four classic races.
Maranda Lofts clocked his blue bar cock seven hours and seven minutes after liberation, one minute 20 seconds before Jurie Hanekom’s blue bar hen.

Two minutes further back was Brian Ludick’s check white flight hen followed by two more pigeons from the Maranda Lofts.

Velocity was 77km/h over the distance of 550km.
The Kimberley open race liberated an hour after the yearling race at 08:15 saw Hansie van der Merwe clocking the winning bird at 15:30, less than 30 seconds before the next two pigeons from Jurie.

The fourth bird, belonging to Jabula Loft clocked a minute later, followed by a blue check hen from Hansie five minutes later.

The winning velocity was a bit slower at 76km/h.
