Local martial arts sensation packs a punch

Local artist seeks sponsorship for upcoming varsity boxing championships

Khulekani Zenani (20), a third-year computer science student at Tshwane University of Technology, eMalahleni campus, is making waves in the martial arts world.

By day, he studies computer science, but by night, he trains tirelessly in mixed martial arts (MMA) with his sights set on becoming a world champion.

His martial arts training began in 2019 with Kyokushin karate at IKKF-SA, where he received his blue belt.

He subsequently pursued boxing and amateur wrestling, where he discovered his true passion.

He currently trains full-time in MMA at the Chamber of Truth MMA in eMalahleni.

But Khulekani’s goals do not end there.

He also founded the Varsity Boxing Championships, an event that showcases local talent and promotes the sport.

The event is scheduled for the end of August, and Khulekani is encouraging local companies, and the community to support the cause.

“I want to create a platform for aspiring athletes to shine, but I need the community’s support to make it happen,” said Khulekani. With sponsorship, Khulekani hopes to make the varsity boxing championships a flagship event for the region.

The varsity boxing finals are intriguing, with local talent contending for the top prize.

The eMalahleni community may assist Khulekani’s goal come true by supporting this event and contributing to the expansion of martial arts in the region.
