Local podcast dedicated to fighting mental health

“Mp Rize Podcast tackles suicide in Phola and to advance arts and culture, sports and recreation,” Mp Rize Podcast founder Nkosana Mavuso shared.

Mp Rize 2230 podcast recently dropped an episode on YouTube that focused on raising awareness about the rise in suicide cases in Phola.

Founder and host of the podcast, Nkosana Mavuso, mentioned that the main reason why he started the channel among other reasons was to advance topics like that and to stop suicide.

“Mp Rize Podcast tackles suicide in Phola such as crime, education, social challenges, dealing with mental health, and also aimed at advancing arts and culture, sports and recreation,” Nkosana shared.

He also shared that the podcast moves with the direction of life by utilizing digital media platforms to create content that is helpful to the community.

Mp Rize 2230 released its first episode on Sunday, March 17, “In Phola we have recently encountered several suicidal cases frequently, and it is often reported that men between the ages of 20 and 39 years old commit suicide for different reasons,” Nkosana outlined.

When asked what could be the leading cause of the suicide cases in the area, Nkosana outlined unemployment and mental health issues could be among the reasons.

Phola ward councillor Betty Maphosa and Nkosana Mavuso.

“We lost our friends, our comrades, and people that we grew up with. Kids lost their fathers and families lost their loved ones, and it needs to stop.
That’s the reason we have quickly embarked on this episode where we invite the community to support, and we encourage many stakeholders to partner with us in trying to deal with mental illness in our community,” Nkosana explained.

The podcast has approached local councillors for this matter because they are the leading representatives of the public and their words in these trying times are key and productive in addressing the matter.

“As we speak, we have people who privately spoke to the councillor and received relevant referrals. We interviewed them on Monday, May 20, and we continuously thanked their support and availability in addressing community issues,” Nkosana ended.
