Teen found after alleged abduction, suspects arrested

Four of the suspects, allegedly involved in the kidnapping of the teen, were arrested in Gauteng and one in Ga-Nala.

The teenage girl who was allegedly abducted in Ga-Nala earier this week is safe.
Two women and three men aged between 23 and 41 years old were arrested for the alleged kidnapping.
According to the Acting Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Mpumalanga, Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, the suspects were apprehended on Tuesday, July 23.

“It is alleged that soon after the girl was kidnapped, these suspects made calls to the victim’s mother, threatening to kill the girl if police were alerted. The two off-duty police constables were called upon by the Acting Station Commander of Kriel Nonhlanhla Mkhwanazi to assist in tracing the suspects,” Mkhwanazi explained.

He outlined that the police members followed and traced and cornered four of the suspects until in Vereeniging, where the 14-year-old girl was also found unharmed.

“The arrested suspects in Gauteng were three males and one female (41), while the fifth suspect, a female (30), was arrested in Ga-Nala,” said Mkhwanazi.

The suspects are facing charges relating to kidnapping and extortion and are expected to appear in court today.

Mkhwanazi ended by saying that kidnapping cases are a great concern to the police, “we are doing our best to mitigate this challenge,” Mkhwanazi ended.
