Good deeds and acts of kindness by Vosman Police help family in eMpumelelweni

Vosman Police visited a struggling family in eMpumelelweni bearing food and gifts.

Vosman Police are committed to fighting social ills in the community just as they are when it comes to protecting and serving residents in the area.

The police took the oath to serve and put the lives of others before their own in a literal form as they are committed to ending social crime and poverty in Vosman.

WITBANK NEWS caught up with the station’s communication liaison, Captain Elizabeth Hlathi, who extended an invitation to witness the good deed done by the police to help those who are less fortunate.

Hlathi and her team visited a family in eMpumelelweni bearing gifts and food that they brought with their own money to assist Elliot Mboza from Ward 23, a pensioner trying to make ends meet for his heavily pregnant wife and two of their sons, one of them being disabled.

Elliot and his wife, Ntombifuthi, are currently staying in a two-room shack with little to no furniture inside the house to accommodate all five of them and the twins they are expecting.

Captain Gugu Mahlangu, Ntombifuthi Mboza, Elliot Mboza, Sergeant Nompumelelo Mahlangu, and Sergeant Moeti Mailula.

Heavily pregnant Ntombifuthi tries to remain optimistic as she waters her steadily growing garden of spinach, herbs, and onions, “I used to work as a cleaner and that money helped me raise my daughter who is doing her final year in college. I am a naturally hard-working person, I started my garden with my bare hands and I wished I had more so that I could do more,” Ntombifuthi shared.

She also expressed that she is nervous but happy about the delivery of her twin babies after she lost her baby boy not so long ago.

“We are living off my husband’s grant to survive. At this point, I need a job, as I used to work as a cleaner and tuck-shop assistant. I am in desperate need of a wardrobe to pack all our clean clothes after washing and ironing; I have to put them on the floor, because I do not have a wardrobe at the moment,” Ntombifuthi cried.

On Thursday, June 27, Hlathi told WITBANK NEWS that the police have a partnership with other relevant departments, police members at the station, and businesses in the area in efforts to fight social crimes.

“There are community members who cannot make ends meet because they lack proper documentation such as Identity Documents that will enable them to apply for the government social security grant. What we do, is that we get ourselves involved to assist. Including this particular case, we are aware that the lady does not have an ID and her matter will be receiving the necessary attention for her to be able to be self-sufficient through the government scheme,” Hlathi explained.

She also explained that the help they get is often not enough as it often does not cater to all the needs of the people, “hence we are making a call to those who can to please help those who are less fortunate. Many young people are potentially interested in furthering their studies but because of family background, they are met with challenges,” Hlathi ended.

Anyone who wishes to extend a hand of grace and assist the police with donations of food, baby clothes, and other household items, can contact Hlathi on 079 891 4842 or visit Vosman Police Station.
