Auctioning the art of possibility

Caring eMalahleni family hosts online auctions to raise funds for the needy.

A compassionate family in eMalahleni has been raising funds for years to feed the homeless, and their mission is grounded solely in their faith and belief that God will provide – not only for them, but for the needy people they help as well.

The family, who would like to remain anonymous, have been running auctions for the past nine years, and between 19:00 and 19:45 you too can be a part of their vision and mission by partaking in their quick, hassle-free 15-minute auctions they host on WhatsApp and Facebook – just look for Project X Auction on Facebook.

The idea for the auctions to raise funds to be able to provide for those in need started with a dream that the owner had of feeding 50 hungry families in eMalahleni, and they have managed to make their dreams a reality.

“I had a vision of providing for 50 families that need assistance. My family and I have lived a blessed life, and we felt it was our God-given purpose to give back to the community as we had been blessed in abundance,” said the brainchild of the auctions.

They stand firmly on their faith and the bible verse Luke 3:11, “Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.”

100% of all donations to the auctions are donated to families in need around eMalahleni, and the family wants no recognition for what they do.

During Covid-19, they were unable to make regular food donations to families. They also realised that food parcels are not always ideal for most people. Many people’s living situations do not always allow for food to be stored in a fridge, to cater to certain medical conditions or allergies, and sometimes their need is not just food. It was then that they decided vouchers from grocery stores would be the answer, as then people could go and buy what they needed when they needed it, without all the time-consuming tasks of sorting food into parcels that might not be exactly what the people need.

“We do all our charity work in our own time and at our own cost, but we don’t mind. We do it to pass on our good fortune to those who have taken knocks in life. If everyone would just give a small amount of their excess, the world would not be in the state it is. Greed has been the downfall of man,” the owner further commented.

The family not only gives to their own database of needy people, but any time they have abundance, they even reach out and donate to other charities that are falling short of their demands for assistance from the community.

“We give whenever we can to as many people as we can. We have more than enough and want to make a difference in the world, no matter how small or big,” were the auction owner’s final words.

A great example to us all, is that if you have a warm jacket and your neighbour is cold, and you can help him, what is stopping you from doing it and making a difference? Anyone can, no matter how small.
