Emmanuel honoured for transformative work with youth

“Indeed, God worked at his pace; who thought that a boy from a squatter camp could share a table with such dignitaries in the name of human development?”

This youth month, we witnessed a man who has been making the most of the youth of eMalahleni getting recognised for his consistent efforts over the years.

Emmanuel Mabaso, the founder and CEO of Nkangala Athletic Academy, was recently recognised in front of South Africa’s Deputy President, Paul Mashatile, and Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, during the Empowerment and Excellency Fellowship event for his contributions to the development of athletic and academic achievement in townships and underdeveloped areas.

Emmanuel said, “It is a privilege to be among the dignitaries that included the deputy president of South Africa, ministers, professors, doctors, representatives from the Chinese industry, and other dignitaries. We had a fruitful four-day workshop with bursars and graduates, unpacking challenges faced by youth in South Africa.”

Emmanuel’s work has been essential in recognising and developing talent, including that of the Amon twins, Thulisile and Thobile. The twins from an orphanage centre graduated with Honours degrees from New Mexico State University in the United States; thanks to the academy’s sponsorship.

The academy has successfully attracted over 100 young people, assisting them in both sports and academics.

He concluded, “Indeed, God worked at his pace; who thought that a boy from a squatter camp could share a table with such dignitaries in the name of human development?”
