According to reports, on Sunday, June 16, around 14:35, the squad spotted a silver with alleged cloned Gauteng registration number plates driving at high speed while patrolling the N4 road between Kromdraai and the Kusile off-ramp.

The silver Toyota Corolla with cloned Gauteng registration number plates was stopped and searched by Middelburg Flying Squad.

Upon searching the vehicle, they discovered a loaded firearm with live ammunition hidden underneath the passenger’s side carpet.

The serial number and firearm’s make and model had allegedly been filed off.

“The suspects, unable to account for a firearm, were arrested and charged according,” said Colonel Donald Mdhuli.

The firearm will undergo ballistic testing to determine if it was used in previous crimes, potentially leading to additional charges.

The breakthrough demonstrates the dedication of the Middelburg Flying Squad in combating crime and ensuring public safety.

This is still an ongoing investigation, and while the suspects were scheduled to appear at the Witbank Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, June 18, the docket was not enrolled due to additional investigations that needed to be conducted.
