Water update | Repairs reach near completion

The most recent water update by the municipality indicates that they are nearly done with the water system repairs.

Emalahleni Local Municipality recently shared an update on the ongoing water outages residents face.

The post shared on social media outlined that all planned water works will be completed by today, (June 26) which will be followed by the commissioning of the plant.

“The project commenced as planned this morning. Currently, the bulk of the scope has been completed and the project is still in progress

– Unblocking of the plant raw water feed pipeline at the Witbank plant has been completed

– Replacement of five suction valves at Point D Reservoir – two suction valves were installed yesterday and the contractor on site to complete the installation of the outstanding suction valves

– Clarifier scraper repairs – clarifier is being drained and scraper will be removed for repairs today,” the post read.

The post also outlined that residents supplied by Reservoir B and C have been receiving water, although the stored water will be depleted on those reservoirs soon.

“Areas supplied by point D Reservoir have been isolated due to the on-going work at point D reservoir.

The Witbank plant is anticipated to be commissioning today as per the shared communication and the residents that were affected will start to receive water once the network stabilises,” the post shared.

The municipality’s director Collen Brentjies, during a public broadcast earlier today, said the municipality is working hard to ensure that the people of eMalahleni get a sustainable supply of water in terms of the quality that is needed.

“The work that is currently being done here is about 99% complete; we are doing the final touch-ups.

The outstanding work is our combined reservoirs in point D. We we still need to fit two valves there which are also under way,” Brentjies clarified.

He also shared that the municipality is confident that it will be able to keep to its timelines this time, “to start up the plant this afternoon and start pumping purified water to our respective communities,” Brentjies ended.

The municipal post ended by assuring that other community residents supplied by Points B and C reservoirs are receiving minimal water supply, except all areas supplied by Point D Reservoir.
