Pigeons clock is seconds after one another

This coming Saturday, June 22, the pigeon racing programme stays at Wolmaransstad, approximately 360km race distance – as the crow flies.

Pigeon racing continued from Wolmaransstad this past weekend.

On Saturday, June 15, it was clear skies and weather conditions were more conducive to racing than the previous week.

Again, the sprint race was from Potchefstroom.

The yearling race went up at 07:15 with a light tailwind helping the pigeons on their way.

Like last week, Hansie van der Merwe clocked the first two birds in the club 10 sec apart, with Maranda Lofts clocking third and fourth shortly after and Hansie clocking fifty three and a half minutes later.

After approximately 360km and four hours on the wing, three and a half minutes split the first five pigeons.

The winning velocity was 84 km/h over the distance.

The open race was liberated at 08:00 and with the tailwind breeze picking up, the old birds were expected to make up time for the young birds.

This was indeed the case as Jabula Loft clocked the winning pigeon at 12:15 for a winning velocity of 85km/h, followed by Hansie only 30 sec later, and André van Rensburg clocking the third and fourth birds another 30 sec later.

Again, the first four birds clocked within one minute of one another.

In the Potchefstroom sprint race things were even more hectic with the first 16 racers clocking in within one minute.

Birds were up at 10:25 with Jurie Hanekom clocking the first bird followed by four birds from Hansie in quick succession. The winning velocity, over the distance of 225km, was 85km/h.
