A 35-year-old man in Vosman has died as a result of using a brazier

The public should be aware that not only braziers, but other heat suppliers used during the winter, can be hazardous and sometimes fatal.

With this cold winter, braziers or imbawula (a container used to burn charcoal or other solid fuel for cooking, heating, or cultural rituals) are used, but they have their drawbacks, and Vosman Police are urging people to use them with extreme caution.

 

This is in response to the reported death of a 35-year-old man on Saturday, June 15.

 

Police reports attribute his death to the use of a brazier in his room while he was asleep.

 

Captain Elizabeth Hlathi from Vosman Police Station said, “While police understand that the cold winter has arrived, however, the community should be wary of the dangers of the use of a brazier as it might have devastating effects. The man also became a victim of the same deadly circumstances as his body was sadly retrieved from his rented room in Vosman, which he shared alone, and police found a brazier inside.”

 

Inhalation of toxic fumes originating from braziers has caused several deaths in Vosman and surrounding areas previously.

 

The public should be aware that not only braziers but other heat sources used during the winter can be hazardous and sometimes fatal.

 

“Further advised them to always open windows for proper ventilation and not to leave the brazier in their rooms when preparing to sleep. Police have registered an inquest docket in this regard,” added Hlathi.
