Truck allegedly loses control and slams vehicles on N4

Accident on N4 looks worse than it is

Two patients were rushed to hospital by Langamed paramedics after a truck driver allegedly lost control and slammed into their vehicles on the N4 at approximately 14:15 this afternoon (June 4).

Two vehicles, a black BMW and white Nissan NP200 were stationary in the yellow lane on the N4, just after the Ferrobank turn-off when a Mercedes Atego truck, carrying fencing materials, slammed into the vehicles from behind.

According to the driver of the truck, two other vehicles allegedly cut him off on the highway and he swerved into the yellow lane to avoid them, before he could react, he hit the the two vehicles standing on the side of the road.

A traffic officer on the scene said, “Our current investigations show that the truck hit the vehicles from behind after losing control.”

Two occupants in the cars, according to the traffic officer, were not in their vehicles at the time, but still sustained injuries and had to be transported to hospital on stretchers and in neck braces.

Looking at the extent of the damage to the two vehicles, the drivers would have been critically injured had they been in their respective vehicles.
The driver of the truck was unharmed, and the truck only sustained damage to the front left and the front left wheel.

There is a substantial amount of debris on the road.

Emergency services, traffic officials, and tow trucks are still on scene and one lane of the highway is currently closed at the scene of the accident. Drivers are asked to please drive with caution.
