14-year-old robbed on his way doing a piece job

A teen from eMalahleni was robbed of his cellphone by two 'nice' men last weekend.

A 14-year-old boy who was busy walking along Gordon Road was allegedly robbed by a man who offered him casual employment to assist with helping offload a car and carrying the parcels into a building.

This happened at around noon on Saturday, May 11.
As with any young teenager, the boy was excited to make some pocket money and agreed.
According to the boy’s mother, the man then told the victim that the house was in a different location and that they would need to go there.
When they arrived where he was supposedly going to be assisting the man, another younger gentleman was waiting there as well.
The older man allegedly proceeded to tell both of them that he needed his help, and would compensate them with a pair of tekkies and R250 for the day.
The victim said the man sweetened the deal by asking him to come back the next day and to bring four friends with him, as there would be more work to do the next day.

According to the teen, the younger man allegedly told them that he was worried about being robbed because he had an employer who was recently robbed by people assisting him.
He allegedly told the victim and the older gentleman to hand over their cellphones and any cash they had on them to him, which would be returned at the end of the day.
The young man told his mother the men then started walking away, and he was going to follow them but was told to wait there for them.
The victim then sat down, and it was at this point that he started thinking that something didn’t seem right to him.
He decided to run after the men, but when he turned the corner, they were gone, allegedly with his cellphone and his cash.

“He was shaking and very angry. He tried calling his phone, but it had already been turned off. I think it is safe to say he will not be walking anywhere ever again,” his mother told WITBANK NEWS.
