Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation Division issues statement after light aircraft crashes.

The Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation Division (AIID) is investigating the light aircraft crash that happened yesterday.

The investigation was confirmed in a statement issued by the division on Monday, April 22.

“The Accident and Incident Investigations Division was informed of an accident involving a Cessna 172 aircraft on a private flight between Nelspruit and eMalahleni in the Mpumalanga province on Sunday, April 21,” the statement read.

It went on to confirm that there were two pilots and two passengers on board inside the aircraft when the accident occurred, “Three of the occupants were fatally injured with one suffering serious injuries at the time. The aircraft was destroyed by fire.”

The statement ended by outlining that the AIID team had been dispatched to the site to collect evidence that would define the scope of the investigation.

“A preliminary report will be issued 30 days from the day of the accident,” the statement ended.
