Glencore recently held a graduation ceremony for 21 graduates

The Enterprise Supplier Development (ESD) for the SMMEs programme under Glencore Coal is a training programme that equips entrepreneurs in host communities with skills to become self-sustaining.

Speaking at the celebration on Wednesday, March 13 was the training and development manager for the programme, George Chidiya, who shared that the goal was to get the graduates to optimise their business functions including both their soft and hard skills, “We then get them to consolidate those skills and utilise them in the industry. At the end of the day, we’re helping them build sustainable businesses.”

Nompilo Sindane, co-founder and director of Dwala Mining, a beneficiary of the Glencore ESD Programme, expressed that the programme has been beneficial and has equipped her and fellow graduates with tools and skills to tap into their respective industries.

Glencore Coal celebrated 21 graduates from the Enterprise Supplier Development Programme on Wednesday, March 13.

“In the mining industry, our company is involved with contract mining and rehabilitation, quality management and various mine technical services. We believe that being a part of this programme will truly enable us to tap into the industry and take advantage of all the opportunities that are available to us,” Nompilo shared.

In a statement issued on social media, Glencore Coal wished to congratulate the recipients who finished the training in several courses, “We hope that the newfound abilities will spur their entrepreneurial spirit.”
