Croc, what croc?

It is not impossible, but highly unlikely, that there is a crocodile in the Olifants River close to Naauwpoort.

Rumours that a croc is seen on the banks of the Olifants River in the Naauwpoort area are doing the rounds.

A video is circulating on social media and it is not clear where the video originates from.

Mr Piet Wassenaar, who has a permit from the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) to work with dangerous animals, said crocs are not common in the eMalahleni area and are usually seen in the Loskop area.

“It is not impossible, but highly unlikely, that a croc will be swimming in that specific area. I have spoken to residents staying on the banks of the river, and they have not seen a croc,” Wassenaar said.

In 2020 Wassenaar caught crocs in the Zaaihoek area and last year he caught one close to Siyanqoba in a dam.
