Security guard fatally shot in eMalahleni CBD

The motive for the shooting in the central business area in Diederichs Street this morning is still unclear.

A guard was shot dead at 11:06 this morning while keeping a watchful eye when his colleagues collected money from a shop.

It is believed that shortly after the cash van stopped to collect the money three men came out of nowhere and one shot the guard in the back of his head.

The suspects picked up the guard’s rifle and fled in a white Ford Ranger bakkie.

No attempt was made to rob the cash van or the shop.

The guard was part of the backup crew that accompanied the cash van on its rounds.

“We are busy with the investigation,” local police spokesperson Captain Eddie Hall said.
