Drops of good news and bad news for residents in eMalahleni

The 600mm diameter isolation valve has been delivered.

The damaged 600mm isolation valve at the water treatment plant in eMalahleni has been delivered.

But that does not mean the water problems are over.

The municipal media desk broke the news that a section of the 600mm diameter steel pipeline is so corroded that it can start leaking, and it must be replaced.

Here is the good news – if all goes well, the pipes and couplings are expected to be delivered this afternoon.

“The installation works will resume immediately after all the required materials have been delivered,” was the word from the media desk.

“We’re also looking at the possibility of isolating the corroded line only and keeping the 900mm diameter line active, whilst repair works are ongoing.”

The existing pipe system doesn’t have any isolation valves, except the damaged one, and it may require a total shutdown from the dam.

“Most of our potable water reservoirs are still running low, and some areas are still without water supply.”

The clarifiers at the main plant are in full production.

The municipality urges the community to use water sparingly during this period, as it will assist in distributing the available potable water equally.
