eMalahleni residents brace themselves for another dry weekend

A faulty raw water inlet valve is to blame this time.

Residents are keeping their breath waiting to hear how many days they will now face without water after a half closed raw water inlet valve was discovered.

The inlet valve was discovered at the water treatment plant which is the major source of water provision for eMalahleni’s water supply scheme.

“Over the past few days, it was noted that the plant’s bulk water production is decreasing tremendously, and upon investigation, a half closed raw water inlet valve was discovered,” was the message from Emalahleni Local Municipality’s media desk.

This has resulted in less raw water entering the plant which caused a decrease in bulk water production.

All the reservoirs within eMalahleni and surrounding areas are affected and running very low due to the huge water deficit from the treatment plant.

A replacement valve is currently being sourced and the valve will be replaced as soon as it becomes available.

“The community is urged to use water sparingly and avoid filling up pools and watering of gardens.”

The municipality indicated that they will supply water tankers to strategic areas for water supply while addressing the raw inlet valve malfunction at the plant.
