In what appears to be another case of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), a man from Vosman died after he was stabbed to death.
A woman, believed to be 36-year-old Lungile Khumalo’s girlfriend, was arrested shortly afterwards.
She appeared in court on Monday, February 19.
The suspect asked not to be granted bail and the matter was postponed to Monday, May 20.
According to the Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, Khumalo’s life was cut short following an altercation with his 26-year-old partner who allegedly stabbed him to death inside his home on Saturday, February 17 at around 23:30.
He was rushed to the hospital by a family member.
“The police in Vosman received a call from the hospital about a patient who succumbed to injuries after being brought in for medical treatment. Upon arrival, members of the police observed that the victim had some stab wounds on the upper body. A case of murder was then opened and after investigations were done, the suspect was traced and arrested,” Manamela informed.
Khumalo was described as a dedicated member of the African National Congress (ANC) Youth League, by aggrieved community and political party members who were present at court.
The deceased was a breadwinner, an only child, and a father to his two children. He worked in a construction company and was described as a hardworking young man with a bright future by his co-workers.
“He had a lot of potential but was often disrupted by his relationship. When he arrived late, I would ask him why, and he would say that his relationship with his girlfriend was not in a good place,’’ his colleague cried.
The Khumalo family asked for privacy during this time, as they were lost for words over the loss of their son.
