Third guesthouse falls victim to armed robbery

More and more guesthouses are robbed.

A guesthouse in Klipfontein has been the latest victim of an armed robbery occurring at places of accommodation.

The modus operandi was the same as the previous cases reported.

At approximately 03:30 on Tuesday, February 6, the staff member on duty at the guesthouse was awoken by a car hooting at the gate.

She thought that it was perhaps a guest wanting to check in or someone needing a place to stay for the night. She went to the gate to find out what was going on.

Allegedly, when she opened the gate, there was a silver VW Polo with no number plates at the gate. The driver of the vehicle had his face covered and allegedly pointed a firearm at the woman and demanded money from her and to take him inside.

Once inside the premises, it is alleged that he continued to threaten her with the firearm.

The perpetrator then allegedly searched her bedroom and stole cellphones, her purse, clothes, bags, and various electrical appliances.

The woman has not been available for comment, as she has been off sick due to the trauma experienced from this incident.

“The police would like to once again ask owners and staff of businesses in the accommodation industry to please be vigilant, alert and put in place necessary precautions to prevent becoming victims of armed robbery,” police spokesperson Captain Eddie Hall requested.
