Alarming robbery cases spark in eMalahleni

Witbank Police are investigating two cases of armed robberies after a cyclist was robbed of his bike, phone, and watch on Christian De Wet Street.

Witbank Police are investigating armed robbery cases following two incidents that allegedly took place between Christian De Wet Street and the N12.

According to the police, a man (34) was on his way to Middelburg whilst driving on the Delmas and Ogies Road at night when he was stopped by a police vehicle.

It is alleged that the police officers approached, threatened, and grabbed the victim’s firearm.

Still shocked by the unexpected police brutality, the man was thereafter forced out of his white Toyota Hilux bakkie into the back seat with his hands tied to his back.

On Tuesday, January 30, the man alleged that the police officers, dressed in full uniform, continued threatening him with his firearm whilst removing his vehicle tracker.

In Die Heuwel, a cyclist was riding on Christian De Wet Street when he was allegedly ambushed by three suspects driving a white Volkswagen Polo.

At around 19:30 on Friday, February 2 the man (40) claimed that when the vehicle stopped next to him, he climbed off his bicycle.

According to the police, one suspect threatened the man with a firearm before stealing his bicycle, cellphone, and watch.

Witbank Police Captain Eddie Hall shared the following tips:

  • install extra security gates and appoint security guards,
  • install security cameras and alarm systems, ensure that all doors and windows are secure,
  • keep minimal cash on the premises and bank regularly.
