Community closes N12 again in hopes of being heard

Ward 21 community closes N12 again after mayor fails to appear at community meeting.

The Ward 21 community is growing increasingly frustrated at what they feel is a lack of concern regarding the issues raised by their community regarding service delivery.

Last night Wednesday, February 7 around 18:30, angry residents retook the streets to close the N12 at the Tasbet Park robots.

Two meetings that have been scheduled with the mayor regarding their grievances have had to be postponed at the last minute due to the mayor being unable to attend.

A representative, Clr Vusi Nhlapo, had been sent to address the items on the meeting agenda on behalf of the mayor, but the disgruntled residents refused to continue with the meeting as they want to hold the meeting with the mayor herself.

The community felt as if they were being brushed off and that the mayor does not care about the struggles they are facing.

As a result of this they felt they had no option but to once again close off the N12 in protest in the hopes of garnering the mayor’s attention to their plight.

The protest remained peaceful with the residents’ only closing off the road at the robots.

They have threatened to continue to close off the road until they are heard.

Residents accused the mayor of provoking them by ignoring their pleas, and to meet with them to resolve the problems.

Clr Nhlapo was asked for comment but stated that an official statement will be sent to the WITBANK NEWS through their media correspondent.
